Description
Poggenpohl is a German kitchen manufacturer with a long history of innovation and design. Some significant developments in the company’s history include the introduction of the “reform kitchen” in 1928, which featured connected cabinets, a separate shoe cabinet, and a sink, table, and chair with an innovative painted and sanded surface. In 1952, Poggenpohl introduced the “Form 1000” design line of fitted kitchens, which were presented at the Cologne furniture fair in 1950 and exported worldwide around 1960. In 1968, the company brought the first solid wood kitchen to market. In 1970, Poggenpohl collaborated with Luigi Colani and the Institute for Environmental Physiology to create “experiment 70,” a futuristic study of a spherical kitchen. In 2000, Poggenpohl presented the +Segmento kitchen concept at the Cologne Furniture Fair, and in 2005, the company introduced the kitchen concept +Modo in collaboration with designer Jorge Pensi. In 2007, Poggenpohl and Porsche Design presented the P’7340 kitchen concept, marketed as a “kitchen for men,” and in 2014, the two companies introduced the P’7350 kitchen concept. In 2018, Poggenpohl launched the +Venovo and +Segmento Y collections. Since the year 2000, Poggenpohl has also developed kitchen concepts in collaboration with designers such as Jorge Pensi and Porsche Design to create more seamless connections between the living room and kitchen space. In a 2004 study by Öko-Test on the stresses on wood-based materials and adhesives used in kitchens, Poggenpohl received a “satisfactory” rating, on par with Bulthaup and better than SieMatic, which received an “insufficient” rating. Poggenpohl is a global kitchen manufacturer with a wide reach. Initially, the company’s sales market was limited to the domestic market in Germany, but it began exporting to neighboring countries in the late 1950s. By the end of the 1960s, Poggenpohl was selling its products in 11 European countries, and in the 1980s, the company was represented in 41 countries with an export share of 46% in 1989. Today, Poggenpohl kitchens are sold through around 450 dealers worldwide, with around 100 of them located in Germany and 35 of its own sales studios, seven of which are in Germany and eight in the United Kingdom. The company has a presence in over 70 countries, including China, Japan, India, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, and most European countries.
