Leicht is a German kitchen manufacturer that was founded in 1928 by the brothers Alois and Josef Leicht in Schwäbisch Gmünd. The company started as a “mechanical joinery,” but in the 1940s, it developed the first built-in kitchen with a system of dimensions and grids that is still used today. In 1954, Leicht introduced a colored kitchen extension called “Colora,” and in 1968, it presented the first all-plastic kitchen, known as “The Kitchen from the Test Tube,” at the Cologne Furniture Fair. In 1975, the company was acquired by Welle Holding and became an independent company. In 1993, it was transformed into Leicht Küchen AG, and today it is an unlisted subsidiary of Welle Holding, with shares still owned by the family. In 2014, the company opened its own training and exhibition center. In 2016, Leicht had sales of approximately 124 million euros with 570 employees, of which 55% was from abroad and 45% was from Germany. In 2013, the company’s turnover was around 96 million euros, with an export share of about 60%. Leicht has distribution channels in more than 55 countries worldwide. The company has two production sites in Germany, one in Waldstetten covering 40,000 square meters and another in Kirchheim unter Teck covering 15,000 square meters.
